| Since the adoption of Reform-and-Opening-up policy in 1978, the government has been providing great support to private colleges for the restart of private higher education. Along with the improvements of the market economy system and the development of the reform of the educational system comes a healthy and flourish development of the education of private colleges in the direction of marketization and diversification. They began to play positive role in enhancing the educational quality and benefit of higher education, in optimizing and rationally distributing the social educational resources and in intensifying the reform of the way colleges are operated.The research on the theory of the development of private education started as private colleges were established successively. The fierce competition in the market of higher education further introduced the Core Competence Theory into this research. However, the time of the development of private colleges and the time of researches on relevant theories are still too short for a healthy future. The rapid booming of private colleges cannot reverse their disadvantages in the competition. Private colleges are still confronting with problems such as unclear purpose of establishment, limited capital resource, inexperienced faculties, indistinctive subjects and lack of staying power. Meanwhile, the research of the core competence of private colleges in China is still in unsatisfactory condition. Therefore, it becomes an urgent problem both in theory and practice for private colleges on how to form their core competence and to further maintain their advantages in the market of higher education.This thesis discusses the definition and features of the core competence of private colleges on the basis of the Core Competence Theory. A generation model of the core competence of private colleges consisting of four levels of elements is built as the theoretical basis and vertificational conditions of this thesis. The operation of Xiamen Nanyang University is read as an application example to analyze both its experience and problems. Inspirations, Advices and the conclusion on how to improve the core competence of private colleges are then raised accordingly. |
