In modern society, the basic command of statistics has become an essential quality of every citizen. The application of statistical knowledge to athletes training and competition is also one of the most basic requirements for sports related professions. However according to researches, due to the impact of exam-oriented education, teaching in this area is not carried out in many sports schools. The lack of statistical knowledge affects not only the improvement of athletic performance, but also an athlete's personal development after retirement. This study uses teaching experiments targeted at students from sports school, trying to promote students' cognition of statistical knowledge and their practical application, thus providing first-hand materials and advice on objectives, content, as well as the implementation of the courses in terms of athletes' study of statistics.In this thesis, four sections are covered as follows:(1) The establishment of three-leveled evaluation criteria on students' statistical knowledge(2) The discovery of insufficient statistical knowledge in sports school students with the secondary-school level statistical test targeted at sports school students of Shanghai University of Sports(3) The discovery of the factors affecting students' command of statistical knowledge through tests, interviews and investigations: students themselves, curriculum criteria as well as teaching materials, teaching management, and teaching approaches.(4) The results of the experimental teaching reform on 42 senior grade 2 students from the sports school acc??ng to the reasons mentioned above:i) Students from the sports school can have a general understanding of basic statistical knowledge such as the "total sample", "sampling technique", "collation and indication of data," and "data characteristics" etc., and the vast majority of their knowledge reaches a fairly high level. ii) Parts of the students are able to analyze a problem from different angles, which shows their good master of statistical approaches. But many students didn't control frequency histogram and standard deviation.iii) With the adoption of the innovative teaching approach streamlined as situation setup-discussion-summarization-application, students' cognition of statistical knowledge and its application can be improved. Though student's mathematics basic and school management bad.Lastly, with the results as the reference, the writer of this thesis puts forward certain advice on the teaching of statistical knowledge to sports school students and further the study direction.
