Chen-style T'aichi dates back from the end of the Ming Dynasty to the beginning of the Qing Dynasty. This particular style was created by Chen Wang Ting from the ninth generation of the surnamed Chen clan of Wen County in Henan province. Just as in the study of religion, philosophy, ethics, medicine, military study, and of the arts, Chen-style T'aichi assimilates into wushu the unification of the diametrical opposites of the Yin and the Yang, the dynamic and static, the positive and negative, of the nonexistent and existent, and of the body and the spirit. Chen-style T'aichi also combines the constructive and beneficial characters of the art of attack and defense, strength, and fitness. Chen-style T'aichi is an outstanding discipline of physical exercise and has status as a non-material cultural heritage at the national level.Chen-style T'aichi is a very important component of Chinese wushu. The earliest date it was drawn into the physical education classroom can be traced back to the Nanjing Central Martial Arts Establishment founded in the late 1920s. Now more and more high schools have already integrated T'aichi into the contents of the physical education classroom and sports education. Many universities and colleges are listing T'aichi on the roster of required courses for the Physical Education major. In contrast, very few middle schools are adopting T'aichi into the gym classroom, and it is better suited for middle school students to drill and practice, build the body, and have a high value of self-defense.In Hejian City, located in the western region of Cangzhou prefecture, the people keep it as a time-honored practice and the people with outstanding ability pour forth. The folk custom of practicing martial arts is vigorous and flourishing. In this place the Chen-style receives many people's affection. According to incomplete statistics, Hejian City has more than three hundred masters proficient in Chen-style T'aichi. A portion of Hejian City's students and teachers have the habit of practicing Chen-style T'aichi in their spare time, providing the enormous possibility of introducing Chen-style T'aichi to the middle school classroom.The main work of this thesis adopts the use of data documents, interviews with experts, questionnaire surveys, inspection and statistical methods. Taking the middle school students and sports instructors of Hejian City as objects of study, the Chen-style T'aichi was introduced to the middle schools to conduct the fundamental research. The results indicate:1. Hejian City is a place of Chen-style T'aichi grassroots survival. Its especially ique style and its special function for middle school students make it drawn nto the middle school's physical education classroom. It will effectivelystrengthen the middle school student's physique. It will strengthen the construction of the middle school student's moral thought, deepen the student's understanding and recognition of traditional Chinese culture, cultivate the student's national spirit, advance the construction of Hejian City's spirit of civilization, form a harmonious society, and implement the full aspects of quality education. 2. Hejian City's middle school students'love for the present physical education classroom teaching's contents and teaching method is somewhat low. Most of the students hope to get an improvement, and Chen-style T'aichi is their best option.3. Chen-style T'aichi adopted into the classrooms of Hejian City's middle schools can have the impact of energetically advancing other physical education projects, but the teachers of the Chen-style still have not reached a high enough level in skill to meet the teaching demands.4. Through a featured analysis of Chen-style's special characteristics and utility, Hejian City's state of development, the present state of qualified teachers for middle school physical education, and the middle school students'level of cognition, the conclusion can be arrived at that not only is Chen-style T'aichi indispensible for Hejian City's middle school sports education, but it is also feasible.
