Coupled with the development of economy and the increasingly liberal environment in the society in our country, people's values, thinking modes and behaviors are undergoing violent changes. Therefore, family moral education cannot avoid a strong impact coming from these changes. As the first place moral education begins from, family which cannot be replaced by schools plays a vital role in moral education and has a significant influence on growth and moral cultivation of the individuals. In some sense, the ideological and moral education of socialist harmonious society depends on family moral education to some extent. Both China and Western countries historically have an emphasis on family moral education and have been exploring theories and practical ways which ought to conform to the social development trends. However, whatever in aspects of history, political system, economic developments and cultural traditions etc, China and the West differs from each other, which will give rise in a difference in their family moral education. Their advantages and disadvantages are respectively identified and a gap between China and the West's family moral education is going to be discovered through a comparative discussion, which can contribute to a perfection of family moral education system.The paper firstly makes an analysis of the development of comparative research on family moral education. Secondly, significances of perfection in China's family moral education system are pointed out by an explanation of its basic concepts, features and status quo. Further, the thesis makes systemic illustration of family moral education in China and the West from five aspects including its concept, goal, method, content and effect. The paper also examines respective merits and weakness and points out how to deal with these differences. Lastly, with an aim to provide feasible ways to better the development of China's family moral education in modern age, this paper tentatively advances strategies respectively from the family, school and society aspects by directing against the disadvantages in China's family moral education and learning from advantages of the West.
