On Students' Satisfaction With The Undergraduate Teaching Quality By Means Of Survey

Teaching quality is the paramount priority of higher education, especially during the current process of education popularization. The quality of undergraduate teaching is drawing more and more attention of the entire society. Since problems regarding undergraduate teaching quality are complicated and widespread and technology disciplines account for the majority of all the disciplines, quality problems are common and typical in technology institutions. HUST enjoys comparatively high level of fame for engineering education, therefore, its engineering teaching quality, to a certain extent, expresses the current situation of the research universities in our country.On the perspective of students'satisfaction, employing the methodology of questionnaire survey on the undergraduates of HUST, the paper analyzed the students'satisfaction with the teaching quality via valid data and drew the conclusions as follows, (1)Students are comparatively satisfied with the overall teaching quality while the level of satisfaction with the various teaching procedures is lower. (2)The average score of the factor of faculty is the highest among all while the score of practical teaching is the lowest. (3)Students'level of achievement motivation has a positive correlation to their satisfaction with the teaching quality; the clearer the learning objectives are, the higher level of satisfaction with the teaching quality.(4)Taking the demographic variables into consideration, grade, discipline category and whether to participate in certain kind of research have a significant impact on students'satisfaction, while gender, cultivation mode of talents, working intent after graduation do not impact the students'satisfaction significantly.In order to improve the quality of undergraduate teaching, employing research findings, the paper makes the following suggestions that the university should create a positive atmosphere for learning, enhance student achievement motivation, reinforce practical teaching so as to provide students access to the real scene of engineering, change teachers incentive mechanism to encourage them to introduce research outcomes into their teaching.
