Human rights education is a new educational current that emerges in the progress of international democratic education,and it is also a new realm of the contemporary international educational research and has become a main trend in current educational development around the world.Having based on the people-oriented educational doctrine,human rights education aims to popularize the human rights culture through transmission of human rights knowledge,instruction of human rights skills and cultivation of human rights attitude.It promotes the individual development and accomplishes equality,democracy and cooperation.Many developed countries with a good tradition of civil society have officially conducted the human rights education in their education systems.In the United States,human rights education starts at an early age and has accomplished remarkable achievements.Although diversities have existed between the United States and China in the field of social system,ideology,cultural and historical background,and even in the interpretation of the concept of human rights,there is still certain common ground for the practice of human rights education.It is of profound significance in promoting the development of human rights education in the primary and secondary school in our country by investigating that in the United States.This thesis consists of five parts:Part One summarizes the tradition and the current states of the human rights education in the United States,and points out its prospect in the proceeding of the democratic education.Part Two devotes to investigate the objects and contents of the human rights education in the American primary and secondary schools.The main contents demonstrate themselves in the form of the relevant regulations by the States,subjects and textbooks.The characteristics of the layout have been concluded.Part Three makes the analysis of the implementation mode of human rights education.On the basis of the proceeding path and methodology study,the types of the teaching mode are probed into.Part Four concludes the general characteristics and current issues of the human rights education in the United States. Part Five,based on the exploration of the significance of the human rights education and the investigation of the current situation in our country,discusses the enlightenments of the human rights education in the United States impinging on our education.
