Grammar has long been a core component of English teaching in China and ways of teaching English grammar vary due to different qualities of teachers, students' capacities, and different. teaching approaches ect. Though task-based approach advocated by new English Curriculum Standards puts much emphasis on the development of communicative competence, it does not exclude the teaching of English grammar. In terms of that, the relevant issue now is not whether we should teach English grammar within the framework of our curriculum, but how to teach grammar more efficiently. That is even more important especially for English teaching in mountainous schools because of their rather bad conditions. As such, the writer attempts, under the guidance of theories and practice of task-based teaching approach and grammar teaching theories, to integrate task-based approach with English grammar teaching, aiming at effectively livening up grammar teaching so as to give students better opportunities to acquire English grammar and communicate correctly and appropriately, i.e. in good grammar. A case study is made in a mountainous school by means of observation, interviews, instruction practice and questionnaires to find out the feasibility and applicability of applying task-based approach in grammar teaching. The study indicates that what has been done is effective and it's feasible and even necessary to apply task-based approach to grammar teaching in mountainous areas and it has obvious advantages over traditional PPP teaching model. By the end of the thesis the writer admits the limitations of this study and its findings, on the basis of which proposals are put forward as to the areas for further research.
