This thesis probes into the management work of head teachers in vocational schools, subjecting to the needs to promote the all-round and health development of students, the effective and enjoyable work of head teachers, and the effective management of their work, based on experience and reflection of the author, who has been involved in the management of head teachers in a vocational school for over 10 years. The thesis displays working state and life state of head teachers as well as management work of theirs, sorts out and analyzes existing major problems and their root causes as well as their similarities, through questionnaires sent to 500 students, 150 head teachers and teachers from 5 municipal vocational schools and interviews with headmasters in charge of moral education and directors of moral education department and 65 head teachers and teacher representatives by means of literature study, questionnaire survey, interview, document analysis and case research in order to carry out theoretical analysis for how to improve work of head teachers in vocational schools, and thereafter propose some strategies and suggestions.According to the survey, there are three working states of head teachers described as "ineptitude at post", "disassociation from post", "competency for post"; there are three major characteristics for life state of head teachers featured as long working time and high intensity physically, unbalance between pay and return economically and high pressure psychologically; the management work of head teachers is thought to be over-administrated and non-professional, which means head -teacher post has not become a professional one. In a word, there are common characteristics among these issues: deviated understanding and incorrect orientation of the position, which calls for further promotion, reformation and perfection for managing concept and management system.With regard to the above mentioned issues, some strategic suggestions are made as follows: Firstly, to carry out re-positioning of the work of head teachers in vocational schools and sort out administrators' recognition of head-teacher post—it should be a professional post among all teachers—so as to further clarify the professional connotation, requirement and quality of head teachers in vocational schools; Secondly, to construct management mechanism focusing on the professional development of head teachers and personnel system for head teachers centered on professional standard; Thirdly, to promote the concept of management and create sound environment for humanistic working state of happiness; Fourthly, to propose operating points for the management work of head teachers, such as reforming the management mechanism, enhancing construction of system, completing service mechanism, sorting out appointment and dismissal system, perfecting excitation mechanism and so on.Hopefully this research could help provide foundation for the decision-making of educational administration, seek breakthrough for perfecting school management, offer references for professional development of head teachers and push forward the realization of reformation and development aim of vocational education.
