The task-based approach(TBA), which came into being in the 1980s, has been widely studied and applied in language teaching. However, as a teaching mode, it is not so widely studied and applied in non-language teaching field. This thesis tries to introduce task-based approach into biology teaching for the purpose of surmounting the disadvantages that exist in traditional teaching, as well as promoting the reformation of biology teaching.In the introduction part introduced the background,purpose,value,method and process of the research are analyzed simply.Apart from the introduction,the thesis is composed of four parts.In the first part,the research status quo on task-based teaching at home and abroad, its connotation and characteristics are analyzed. Also, the theoretical basis of task-based teaching is analyzed from the perspectives of philosophy, pedagogy and psychology. It can be concluded that task-based approach, as a student-centered teaching mode, attaches importance to the process of learning and advocates cooperation and interaction. It takes "Learning By Doing" as the core and embodies the unification of teaching and learning.In the sencond part, it is necessary to implement a new teaching mode both from the perspective of the target of course reform in China and the new ideas and status quo of biology teaching. This part discusses the orientation and implemantation principles of task-based teaching in biology teaching, the choice of contents and task type, students' learning strategies, and the roles that the teacher and students play in the course of implementation and so on.In the third part, the implementing strategies of task-based teaching in biology teaching are expounded. The tasks in task-based teaching should be of definite target and moderate difficulty level, should attach importance on cooperation and interaction, and should be conducted situationally with open tasks. The implementation of the tasks are organized in the following order: Creating situations and presenting tasks ; Teacher's guidance and Assigning tasks; Division and Cooperation, Completing tasks; Demonstrating achievements and Evaluating tasks. This part also advocates evaluation strategies with definite goals, diverse methods, diverse subject matters, stratified objects and timely processes.In the forth part, the experimental study was conducted with first-year students of senior high school as the experimental objects; the experimental results and the problems which occurred in the course of implementing TBA were analyzed and dicussed; orientation Rebuilding of the relationship between the teacher and students, position of knowledge teaching and development of learning resources in task-based teaching are reconsidered.The results showed that it is feasible and effective to implement task-based teaching in biology teaching which has a positive effect on students' learning interest, attitudes and ability to communicate and cooperate with others. Besides, it could largely improve students' academic achievement. Finally, The writer put forward some suggesions about the limitation in the research work.
