A Study On The Lifestyle Of Seniors In The Process Of Modernization. The Case Of The Xinjiang University Elderly Community

Modern human society is experiencing a new historical trend,modernization. In the process of modernization,people have good health and longevity with the increase of incomes and the improvement of the environment and healthyconditions,so the elderly population is increasing greatly,and the phenomenon of aging and the issue of ageing depend on modernization.Modernization is a cultural change process,and the lifestyle was regarded as another cultural expression,the inevitable changes will appear in the process of modernization.At present,most scholars are studying lifestyle changes from the sociological perspective,including the contents of lifestyle,which is most important.In contrast,the main concepts of life and consciousness hidden in the way of life are needed to be explored,such as sociological research,it is flimsy and inadequate to study.In addition,modern society and its lifestyle requires to achieve and promote ideological and cultural belief.Therefore, the study of the modern lifestyle has a significant value not only in academic value but also in practice of the social reality.This paper uses an anthropological basis to study the lifestyle of seniors in a multi-ethnic community from the Xinjiang University Elderly Community as it engages the process of modernization.The writer studies seniors'life condition and developing trend based on the relationship of modernation and the lifestyle of seniors.The reasons why writer studies intellectual seniors are as follows: on the one hand,it is practical,on the other hand,the intellectual seniors direct modernation,their feeling for modernation are most deeply and systematical,and the developing level and achievement of modernation is embodied most obviously in their lives.Therefore,the intellectual seniors'modernity is higher than other seniors,and forecasting the developing trend of future lifestyle is more scientific on the basis of the intellectual seniors'lifestyle.The writer investigated and interviewed 157 seniors (Han: 96 persons, ethnic minorities: 61; male: 94 , Female: 63). The present study focuses on the lifestyle of multi-ethnic intellectual seniors and its ideological and cultural transformation using a qualitative methodology. The main contents are as follows:Firstly, according to physical and psychological characteristics of the elderly,the lifestyle of seniors is to be limited in consumer lifestyle and leisure lifestyle.The study focuses on quantitative analysis and qualitative research,summarizes the overall features of lifestyle of old seniors ,and obtains differences of lifestyle between minority old intellectuals and Han old intellectuals.Secondly, this paper quantifies the means - life satisfaction scale of lifestyle of intellectual seniors of Han nationality and minority to measure the subjective feelings, and to do comparative analysis.Thirdly,as modern society and its lifestyle is required to achieve and promote ideological and cultural belief,we will concentrate on this academic point of view to study seniors suffering all sorts of cultural changes in the process of modernization.Forthly, after the studies on seniors in the ideological and cultural concept of the transition,we are adopting quantitative methods - their personal scale of modern empirical to measure their lever of personal modernity.The conclusion Sums up the whole characteristics of intellectual seniors'modern lifestyle of the Han and minority and their differences in the level, impact factors and the development trend of this situation.
