University Campus Culture is a kind of latent educational force, and it plays an indispensable role in the healthy development of students. However, the influence of campus culture on the university students is realized through series of cognitive processing of individuals. Therefore, what really works on students is the campus culture they have apperceived, which is a psychological variable and a result of interaction between individual character and school environment. In view of the limitations of former qualitative description of university culture, this thesis makes a research about the subjective cognitions of university students about campus culture through the angle of Organizational Cultural Science and Social Cognitive Theory, and it also conducts a comparative study about different students' cognitions about campus culture between China and the west. This study can provide positive evidence for future study. Meanwhile, the questionnaire on university campus culture can also provide an effective tool for measurement for school grading and comparison of schools in the future. This study adopts a combined methods of questionnaire and interview. 70 university students and 30 university teachers participated in answering the questionnaire, 6 university students were interviewed at great length, and 8 foreign teachers and experts gave their views about the differences about campus culture between Chinese and the western universities. Questionnaire on university campus culture was designed based on the result of investigation , LIKERT self-evaluating 5 point scale was used for scoring; a formal questionnaire with 32 items came into being after forecast, analysis and edit. The questionnaire was also translated into an English version. An investigation was carried out both at home and abroad. Five universities were chosen and 500 questionnaires were delivered, of which 461 valid were collected. Questionnaires of English version were also distributed in two universities in Canada, and 49 valid collected. Conclusion drawn from the research is as the follows:1. The questionnaire designed by us is four-dimensional, including spiritual culture, organizational culture, material culture and behavioral culture. Its high valid and reliable index has been proved through analysis.2. Generally speaking, university students apperceive campus culture positively. The common thing for the university students from China and Canada is that their cognitions about campus culture lies in spiritual culture. The difference is that Chinese university students apperceive organizational culture passively, while Canadian students apperceive material culture passively.3. Juniors apperceive culture passively in all aspects. Freshmen apperceive positively all the other aspects except material culture. Sophomores and seniors have a higher cognition about material culture and general campus culture questionnaire than juniors, while sophomores have a lower cognition about spiritual culture than freshmen.4. There is no obvious difference in cognitions about organizational culture among boy students of different grades, while the cognitions of third-year girl students are clearly lower than girls of other grades and their cognitions are also lower than those boy students of the same grade. No such obvious difference exists iamong students of different sexes in other grades.5. As far as behavioral culture is concerned, no obvious difference exists among boy students of different grades, while junior girls have a clearly lower cognition about it than the first year and second year girl students, and boys in grade two have a lower cognition than girl students. No obvious difference exists in sexes in other grades.6. Chinese students of grade one and grade three are inferior to students of grade two and grade four in their cognitions about university campus material culture, while Canadian students of grade four are lower than those of grade three. Chinese students of grade two and grade four are superior to Canadian students in this aspect. No clear difference exists for juniors in China and Canada.
