The paper aims at the situation existing in today's chemical teaching, that is, emphasizing teaching but making light of learning, emphasizing results but making light of process, and emphasizing mastering knowledge but making light of emotional attitude and notion of value. Therefor, a proposal is offered that we should effortfully practise in the investigating learning, so as to change the actualities and may promote the students to explore the process of knowledge formation and solve the problems by themsleves. Thus, it is hopeful to change the old pattern of teaching in schools, and make the students the real dominant status in teaching and exert their potential creative talent.The paper summarizes the origin, meaning, characteristics, implement condition, and international and national study trends of the investigating learning, as well as the theories of investigating learning in eduction and psychology. Based on the analysis of the characteristics of investigating learning, and combined with the results of the questionnaire, it is also proposed of domination, school participation, scientificalness, flexibility and interest as the implementation rules, conditions and strategies of the investigating learning. The contents of the study include (1) cultivating the students'consciousness of asking questions; (2) creating the questioning situation during the investigating learning; (3) enlightening the students'abilities of hypothesis; (4) training the students'abilities of designing and practicing in the experiments using the knowledge they have already gained; (5) taking appropriate control of the investigating learning; (6) helping the students to analyze the clues and draw the conclusions.The practice of investigating learning in organic chemistry in senior high school was carried out on the basis of the reality condition for one year. The results showed that the students'scores increased, the study mode changed substantially, the consciousness of self-study, self-management, and team work enhanced, and the abilities of practicing and creating improved.As a consequence, the practice of investigating learning in organic chemistry in senior high school can transform both the teachers'teaching patterns and the students'learning methods. It is an effective way to bring up the students'creative spirit, practical abilities and scientific attainments, as well as promote comprehensive competence-oriented education.
