Since American foundational clinical psychologist, H. J. Freudenberger, put forward the conception of job burnout for the first time in 1974, the researches on these problems have been paid more and more attention to day by day, especially the ones on service trades. With the development of society and the increasing social competitions, the phenomena of job burnout have appeared widely in all the fields of life in society, especially the field of education.There have appeared many researches on job burnout. However, the researches on job burnout of English teachers in ordinary senior middle schools (compared with key senior middle schools) are quite few. But as a matter of fact, this group takes the large percentage of the troops of teacher, and it has its own particularity. Therefore, based on the theories of job burnout of former researchers, such as H. J. Freudenberger's clinical view of job burnout, Maslach and Pines'social psychological view of job burnout and organizational view of job burnout and adopts the edited-interpreted edition of Maslach's MBI and Cooper and Halpin's questionnaire on the external effective factors of job burnout of teachers, the present thesis takes the English teachers in ordinary senior middle schools as the research subjects, by using the methods of investigation and analysis, the investigation of questionnaire was conducted among on 118 English teachers from 8 ordinary senior middle schools in Zhanjiang and 8 teachers of different ages and sexes were randomly chosen to have individual interviews for the purpose of finding the phenomena of job burnout of teachers. The thesis does the survey and analyzes the phenomena and the effective factors from many perspectives and put forward the related suggestions and strategies. By investigating and analyzing, it is shown that the effective factors of job burnout of English teachers in ordinary senior middle schools are related to the personal factors (genders, teaching ages, the post of chief teacher, teaching class, self-respect, external control, honor received and interpersonal relationship), the professional factors (role conflict, English course, professional ranks and education degree), school factors (organizational and evaluational system, economic gains, students'problems,work stress and heavy workload), and social factors (the high expectation of society to teachers and the influence of examinational system). Among them, professional ranks, educational degree, academic achievements and interpersonal relationship and the organizational and evaluational system, students, work stress and economic gains play an important part. The thesis consists of six chapters as follows:The first chapter is the introduction.The second chapter deals with literature reviews.The third chapter tells the investigations about job burnout of English teachers in Zhanjiang ordinary senior middle schools.The fourth chapter presents the findings and inspiration.The fifth chapter is the chapter related to the strategies and suggestions concerning with the main effective factors and the process of job burnout of English teachers in ordinary senior middle schools, the author puts forward the related strategies and suggestions including the personal adjustment and improvement, teachers'professional development, creating harmonious school environments, needing social support and so on.The sixth chapter serves as the conclusion.
