A new round Curriculum Reform Experiment of basic education has been successfully carried forward nationwide. Teachers are required to change not only their instructional idea but also the long-formed teacher-centered teaching methods; at the same time, the Reform Experiment provides favorable conditions and room for teachers' further development and improvement. It is therefore a precious opportunity as well as a challenge. With mainly Action Research method, the writer of this thesis has conducted a two-year research on the changes of instructional styles among high school chemistry teachers. In the course of the research the writer has realized that the application of elicitation and inquiry-based teaching method encourages teachers to renew their instructional idea and methods. This thesis consists of 4 chapters:The first chapter: Analysis of the construction characteristics of new chemistry textbook: compulsory section and selective section. The compulsory section focuses on required basic knowledge while the selective part is its deepening and extension. What are the aims of the new textbook? What abilities should our students possess in their future study? What social characters will they turn eventually? The second chapter: The transformation of chemistry teaching patterns with New Curriculum ideas. Problems and the proposed teaching patterns in the implementation of the New Curriculum Criterion are also covered.Chapter three: Basic strategies to be adopted in the realization of the ideas. This is the core of the thesis. The last chapter: Illustrations of the application of elicitation and inquiry-based teaching method through two instructional cases. This part covers the process of the practice, the analysis and discussion of the results and the profound reflection on the research of the instructional patterns transformation Reform.
