Teaching English aims at cultivating students' linguistic competence and communicative competence. In order to achieve those purposes, English teachers should not only help students have a good command of linguistic knowledge ,but also focus on skill training, and involve students in communicative activities.The curriculum reform has been into the classroom .The reform centers on the transformation from the traditional emphasis on language points to emphasis on language skills and from the emphasis on effect to process. It also focuses on changing the teacher-centered situation to the student-centered one to promote the students' creativity and practical skills. Although Communicative Language Teaching(CLT) has been carried out for many years in China ,the teacher is always analyzing the text in the countryside senior school. Based on the practical situation of students and my teaching experiences on reading for English major. According to the current situation of teaching English reading, the application of the communicative approach is tried on the English reading in the countryside senior school.Firstly, the paper analyzes the situation of English reading teaching in the rural high school. It shows the fossilization of the teaching view, the model of the teaching process, the standardization of the Evaluation System, the loss of the subject consciousness and the situation of English reading teaching in my school. In the following part of it, the author demonstrates the basic theories of communicative language Teaching, and differences between the communicative approach and the traditional approach ,and review the results of the studies on Communicative language Teaching. Then, from the teaching practice, the author shows the application of the communicative approach is in my school.The important part of the paper is chapter IV, which is about the application of Communicative Language Teaching (CLT). in the reading class, the writer uses a variety of interactive reading activities .In this approach, students are the center in the class and the most important part is improving the students' reading comprehension . when improving the reading comprehension, the interactive teachers help the students to develop their listening , speaking , writing and reading happen at the same time in the interactive class. Thus, the students' integrated ability of using English is improved. In order to verify the effect of this approach, the author carried out the experiment in two classes in Yong Cheng experimental senior school. The students were asked to respond the questionnaire in my school. The application of the communicative approach in the reading class took an important role in the improvement of students' skills. Besides, the writer gives some suggestions for the future researh.Finally, the author summarizes the thesis, addresses its limitations on the communicative approach. Although there are some limitations in the application, our English teachers explore it in the English teaching practice. So long as we keep on trying and practicing, we can find out the problems during the application. The communicative approach will be bettered and developed.
