The art course for senior high school students is a course with a strong sense of humanity ,it not only satisfies the purpose of passing on the knowledge of art in all types, but also helps students gain rich experience in the judgment of beauty , and in the course of developing and perfecting their ability at art, the students will acquire the qualities of respecting others ,self-respect and self—discipline ,self-encouragement and teamwork . It helps form the value tendency that makes them keep on seeking perfect ,thinking about the meanings of life and its value ,bettering their personalities and life–long study .It is considered to be the required important field in senior high school education.Although art education has already been listed in the general education program in many areas and the results and quality have improved a lot , yet there are lots of difficulties and problems which are far behind the development and demand from the social culture because of its long–term neglecting ,poor foundation and unbalanced development. Even in the course of art education ,there exist some problems that must be solved and taken seriously by every educator.This research paper is based upon"The Standards of Art Course for Ordinary High Schools"and the study of the teachers of art, as well as the interview of the students of art from high schools in Huhhot area. The writer also bases his ideas on the collections of concerning documents and the research into the present situation in art teaching .The interview and survey reflect some problems of all aspects , such as the prejudice of art education ,the shortage of teaching hours ,the different levels of personal quality of art teachers, the dull teaching method, the neglect of theory and stress too much upon ability, lack of creative activities ,the poor assessment system, the shortage of the resources in art education.Therefore the problems that exist in basic education period and unfit for the development of society and education reform also disturb the teaching in art courses. What led to these problems is that a complete understanding of art courses hasn't been reached and that the art teachers have low artistic level and the misunderstanding between division of subject and comprehension .According to the main reasons for these above problems ,the writer put forward some supposed solutions which are based upon the study of the local characteristics in art education.It is suggested that the management and regulation of art courses should be strengthened ,the teachers'sense of teaching art should be renewed , the traditional teaching methods should be reformed ,the assessment system also should be improved and resources of art education should be developed made full use of greatly .With the hopes of guidance to practices in art education ,the writer composed this research paper.
