Marriage Burnout Of City Inhabitant

Couple burnout is a state of physical, emotional, and mental exhaustion that occurs as a result of long-term involvement in emotionally demanding situations.Pines had raised the concept of marriage burnout in 1986,then he had studied it's antecedent variables, consequence variables, and its relationship with job burnout including how to measure it with his colleague in the last more than twenty years ,while there was no such research of marriage burnout in our country.The rate of divorce in China had increased recently and the social problems caused by marriage became more and more serious .The main purpose of this article was to study the condition of the marriage burnout in the background of China, to find the source of the pressure of marriage burnout in China and also to study the relationship among marriage pressure, marriage burnout and divorce intention .The study was divided into three parts. The first research developed the scale of marriage pressure. On the basis of the previous researches, this study formed a 14 items marriage pressure questionnaire as the ultimate result through an opening inquiry, a first test and the formal test.The second research studied the structure of the CBM(The Couple Burnout Measure), The results of data analysis showed that it was a high degree of correlation between the various dimensions of the 3-D questionnaire.The third research used the scale of marriage pressure, marriage burnout,and divorce intention as tools to study the relationship between marriage pressure, marriage burnout and divorce intention, and reported the picks out rate of this survey.The conclusions of this study were:First, there are 14 items in the scale of marriage pressure, both of the reliability and validity reached the needs of psychometric standard.The Alpha was 0.8206 and the coefficient of Split-half was 0.8069.It could be used in the study of psychology as an effective measurement tool.Second, CBM was a high degree of correlation between the various dimensions of the 3-D questionnaire.The Alpha was 0.9518 and the coefficient of Split-half was 0.9215. The three-factor model is superior than the single-factor one.Third, the pick out rate of marriage burnout showed that there was 16.3% belong to mild burnout, 8.4% belong to moderate burnout and 1.9% belong to high degree burnout in this survey.Fourth, there was no significant gender difference in the marriage burnout while there was significant difference in the years of marriage during which the couple with10-20 marriage years had higher level of maririage burnout.Fifth, there were positive correlations among marriage pressure and its dimensions , marriage burnout and divorce intention. Marriage pressure could predict marriage burnout significantly after excluding the impact of demographic variables.Marriage burnout could predict the divorce intention significantly after excluding the impact of demographic variables.Structural equation modeling results suggested that the emotional and economic dimensions of marriage pressure had direct and significant effects on marriage burnout and marriage burnout had direct and significant effects on divorce intention. Marriage burnout was a partial intermediary between emotional pressure and divorce intention, and a complete intermediary between economic pressure and divorce intention.The subjects of the article were the married people of city inhabitant in Henan Province. The article studied the relationship among marriage burnout, marriage pressure and divorce intention in the background of China and further afford the empirical support for whether the marriage burnout has the cross-cultural consistency in the context of Chinese culture.
