Guo Bingwen was a famous Chinese educator of modern times. He studied the American pattern, putting forward the view that the normal school should be lodged in the university, and restructured the Nanjing higher Normal School for the Southeast University. He implemented the strategy of "four balances" and the school administration idea of "democracy" and "opening", making Nanjing Higher Normal School and Southeast University famous in the southeastern area and overseas. Studying Guo Bingwen's school idea and the value pursuit which is presented in his school practice not only can provide certain model for the development of the modern higher education in our country, but also can be beneficial to deepen our research of the history of higher education.This dissertation consists 6 parts:The preface gives an introduction of the reason in selecting topic of this dissertation, sums up ancient study production, and then, on the basis of this, the thesis points out the shortage of ancient studies and the innovation of this study, introduces the thinking and method of this study summarily.The first part of the body introduces simply Guo Bingwen's social background and personal educational practices, it mainly analyzes his life experience at home and his educational background in the College of Wooster and Columbia University, to lay the foreshadowing for discussing his academic origin .The second part of the body introduces his view that the normal school should be lodged in the university. Firstly, the dissertation explains his view resulted from the fact that he study the American educational pattern on the basis of analyzing the origin, then explains the connotation of the view from some aspects such as the establishment of the branches, the education form, the teachers' education and so on, meanwhile, points out his idea is the fusion of the development of times and individual viewpoints.The third part of the body introduces his strategy of "four balances". The dissertation analyzes respectively from these four aspects: the balance between well-rounded education and specialized education, the balance between humanistic education and science education, the balance between the investment in teaching staff and equipment, the balance between inside a country and outside a country. At the same time, the dissertation points out that the strategy generates from the fact that Guo Bingwen inherit and carry forward the essence of Chinese traditional culture, and understand the Western culture deeply.The fourth part of the body introduces Guo Bingwen's school administration idea. The dissertation carries on the elaboration from the two aspects: the democratic administration of autonomous academic and the professor ruled university, and the open administration collecting the materials from the society and serving for the society. At the same time , the dissertation points out that his school administration idea is the combination of democratism and authoritarianism.The fifth part is the conclusion of the body. According to the cardings and introductions, it carries on the realistic appraisal to Guo Bingwen's higher education thoughts, on the basis of this, it proposes several points to native higher education's enlightenment. |
