Task-based Language Teaching (TBLT), which is suggested in the New National Standard for Compulsory Senior English Curriculum, is a new approach evolved from communicative language teaching theories in the environment of overseas second language. Many researches have proved that it is a creative and effective teaching approach. However, there are still many problems springing up in senior English teaching in China. In China, the aim of English teaching in primary school, junior school and senior school is not only to develop the students' communicative ability but also to train them how to use their English and use English to get information. Therefore, English teaching is foreign language teaching. In China, the aim of our learning English is to master an instrument/tool and weapon which we use to communicate with foreigners to get information. We can not neglect the reality, that is, our students have to face the College Entrance Examination. The most important chance for students to use English and prove their English proficiency is taking exams. At present, whether for a country, a society or for students and their parents, their evaluation to a school is still the results of National College Entrance Examination. This demanding situation requires that teachers should combine the students' exam abilities with the improvement of their English abilities. Therefore, it is very practical and necessary to domesticate Task-Based Language Teaching for the benefit of China's basic English language teaching. In connection with the condition of China's elementary English education, this thesis, based on the useful experience of China's English language teaching so far, tries to construct a task-based English language teaching model with the reality of China—National College Entrance Examination. That is to combine the. model of Willis's with traditional teaching methods. In class, teachers should not only pay attention to language forms and the language meanings, but at the same time they should improve the students' comprehensive ability. The author thinks this study of TBLT, which is closely related to the education reality of China, is of both theoretical and practical values.
