"The Program of China's Education Reform and Development"has declared clearly that"each primary and middle school should have its own characteristics."School characteristic education is not only the objective requirement of social and economical development, relating to the implementation and Propulsion of quality education, but the demand for the existence and development of schools. Many scholars and educators in practice have conducted a large body of research upon the theory of school characteristic education in the few past years. A large number of schools are pursuing and establishing their own school running styles in face of the new call of course reform.The inevitable factors produced by the social and economic development, questions occurred in education practices and the continuous deepening of quality education and course reform call for a large body of social demand towards education. The diversified needs of society to education is nessecitated by the implementation of the education of all-round development, and also a womb of school characteristics. The stereotyped school-running model has lagged behind the demand of educational reform, and undoubtedly, to justify the individualization of education and characteristic school running is inevitable."Enhancing school building with their own characteristics"is an important way to strengthen their core competence. A connotative way of development is to guide actively the school's individualization and characteristic development, advanceing with great efforts the building of school characteristics. Times call for a new educational pattern of students with advantages, classes with features and schools with characteristics. Taking the education characteristic in Laiwu No. 1 Road Primary School, Qingdao as an example, this paper tries to make some consideration and discussion on building school characteristics, stating the understanding on the connotation and strategies of building school characteristics, and raise views based on the analysis towards the established shool characteristics. It takes such to introduce the characteristic buliding experiences of the subject school in order to find some beneficial experiences of building school characteristics in accordance with our national conditions.This paper can be divided in to five parts. Part one describes the research backdrop of school characteristic building. Part two deals with the literature review on school characteristic building. Part three states the purpose and method of this study. Part four introduces the practical explorations in the school characteristic building in Laiwu No. 1 Road Primary School, Qingdao perspectives as the orientation, system guarantee, group contruction, educational research, school strengthening, resource application, school cultrual construction. Part five stats the suthor's understanding on school characteristic building, including (1) Ideological Work going first, judging the situation, perfecting institution, achieving the fixed position of character (2) the characteristic building– oriented teachers'training system is the key to the school characteristic building (3) strengthening scientific research is the motive to promote the connotation of school characteristic (4) school-based curriculum provides a wider platform for the development of school characteristic (5) Campus Culture constructs the atmosphere for school characteristic...
