Educational assessment would have an effect on the overall results of the educational reform. Thus, authentic assessment is one of the important issues in educational research, because it is useful in understanding the effect of instruction and learning. The results of authentic assessment provide learning information to students, allowing them to better understand themselves. This form of authentic assessment also provides important teaching information to teachers, helping them to improve their instructional design. It will not only lead teachers and students to a positive direction, but also help teachers, students and parents of students find their strengths and weaknesses, so as to better promote student learning and development and make teaching and evaluation be an organic whole.Firstly, this paper will describe the origins and meanings of authentic assessment, analyzing the characteristics of authentic assessment. Secondly, this paper will highlight the advantages and disadvantages of authentic assessment. Finally, the paper will discuss the application of authentic assessment in the junior English language learning in China and introduce some forms of authentic assessment used in the present study .
