The Study Of Cai Yuanpei's Thought On Women Education

Advocating and recognizing women education is the core of Cai Yuanpei's education ideology. Cai Yuanpei paid great attention to Chinese women education, and established an integrated system for it. Based on the contemporary condition of Chinese women, he proposed the education object as " education makes country prosperity", "to make education publicized, women education is the key". Through the hardworking of Cai and other educators who possess the same ideology as him, China began to establish women school, and women education began its new way. Cai always opposed female discrimination, he said, "Education makes country prosperity. To make education publicized, women education is the key." He also possessed the opinion that no matter in China or in other countries, men and women should be entitled to the same kind of education. After he became the minister of education, he took two measures to promote women education, on one hand he support all the moves of establishing all kind of women school as women middle school, women's teachers school and women vocational school; on the other hand, he command a co-educational setting in the primary education. Thought the co-educational system existed only in the primary schools, it broke the age-old feudatorial injunction as "to observe propriety between the sexes". This move established the new era of Chinese co-educational education.
