| In his Allgemeine Padagogik (General Pedagogics) published in 1806, Johann Friedrich Herbart proposed "the educational principle of teaching", from which originated the notion that 'Teaching should be educationally oriented", a well-received theoretical principle in the education circle. In practice, however, some college teachers in China simply deviate from the basic goal of higher education, and undertake a non-all-around-development-oriented teaching, as what is reflected from certain studies of college students' feedback. The thesis first defines the so-called "jiaoshu yuren" (literally translated as "all-around-development-oriented teaching") and "qing yuren" (literally translated as "non-all-around-development-oriented teaching"), and states that college teachers should take a variety of measures and methods to educate students morally and ideologically and to develop their professional skills and personality in order to develop them in an all-around way. It then analyses the side effects of college teachers' non-all-around-development-oriented teaching and its causes from the aspects of the society, the internal management mechanism of colleges and universities, and the teachers and students. It finally proposes that it is essential to establish a mechanism of all-around-development-oriented teaching, in addition to the cooperation and join efforts of the government, the institutions of higher education and college teachers, in order to solve the stated problem. The goal of education is to educate rather than to train a person, and it aims at the all-around development of the person. So is the goal of the institutions of higher education and the pursuit of college teachers in their career. It is a principle that all the educators and teachers should stick to in their teaching career. |
