The innovation of reading comprehension teaching is the key to theEnglish language teaching reformation. Therefore more and moreimportance is attached to the training of reading comprehension, which isregarded as one of the four basic language skills in English learning. But,under the influence of the traditional pedagogy, quite a few senior highschool teachers often lay focus on the learning of the knowledge ofvocabulary and grammar. As a result, their students ignore the learning,accumulating and applying of the schemata knowledge, which is closelyrelated to the reading materials, we, with the achievements in readingstudies, from the angle of schema theory, mainly explore that theinnovation of reading comprehension teaching is quite necessary.To start with, the thesis mainly discusses the current situation ofsenior English teaching and the requirements of the syllabus. After that,the thesis lays its foundation on schema theory, which involves thedifferent definitions of schema, the classification of schemataknowledge and its role in reading comprehension, from which theconclusion is drawn that during the reading, students can use differenttypes of schema knowledge according to the their language proficiencyand different reading materials. In the following part, the thesis brieflystates the relationship between the reading comprehension inspiration andthe application of schema theory in senior high schools; We provide areading teaching model of a text, which shows how to use schema theoryin reading comprehension teaching. In the last part of the thesis, an experiment is done between two classes using two different teachingmethods, one is traditional, the other is new, that is, the teaching methodthat uses schema theory, which is proved to be far better.
