In modern society, information literacy has become the basic quality of every citizen which has drawn more and more attention from the whole globe. It has been merged into the education goals and evaluation system ranging from elementary schools to colleges. It has turned into an important standard of estimating the comprehensive quality of an individual talent.Information literacy is the basis for life-long study. So it is for every subject and education of every environment and every stage. With certain amount of information literacy, learners can attain the content of study and do some further expansion for his own research. Therefore a more efficient control over his study can be obtained which will then make the study a process with more control and guidance by oneself.Since the 1990s, great development has been achieved in the institute education, career education and adult education. It has provided numbers of professional specialty talents for the construction of socialism modernization. It has enhanced the quality of labors and has played an much important role in building the social construction of spirituality, enhancing the society advancement and economic development. Adult education has based itself on the level of higher career education, stressing the characteristic of career education, aiming for improving students'ability of obtaining employment under the guidance of the market, providing talents of good technical skills for the nation. Compared to the students of other high schools, students of adult education has weak academic foundation and less ability of self-control with lower quality. These disadvantages and the cultivation goal of school has decided that they need to reinforce their mastership of ability of renewed study and cultivation of information literacy.This paper is deviled into six parts.The first part is about prolegomenon. It includes the background of problem task researching,item and means,the status both in China and other countries. The second part is about information literacy,including connotation intension meaning and appraisement tarket of information literacy. It analyses and relates adult students'information consciousness, information moral, information knowledge and information ability. It also analyses and relates adult students'structure hierarchy and meteyard of information literacy.The third part is about status investigation of adult students'information literacy. It relates the contents, way of the study and the design of questionnaires. The design of question aires based upon eighty six indexes which are populur with American students and adopted Liken-type rating scale. The only one questionnaire came from fifty multiple choose,the condition of individual information, the condition of course setting by analyzing the test, the reliability and the efficiencies setting. The third part adopted self-made questionnaire and hierarchical random sample methods. It covered with six departments and twenty-five specialties of Guilin Institute of Tourism, twenty-five for each specialites.The fourth part analyses the actuality of students':information literacy in accordance with the survey result. Questionnaire datum were analyzed through the software SPSS 13.0 and Excel 2003. As for the charts, they were verified via KMO and Bartlett, which revealed that they adapted to the factor analysis. Thus the datum of the whole questionnaire were further analyzed as following: (1) Information literacy relativity analysis: the whole information literacy educed from the analysis was composed of information consciousness, information knowledge, information skills, information moral, which supplemented each other. The general assortment of students'information literacy is related to some factors such as gender, grade, family address, PC user, the attendance of file-research course. (2) Information literacy discrepancy analysis, involving gender discrepancy analysis, grade discrepancy analysis, family address discrepancy analysis, the discrepancy analysis among information literacy, the attendance of file-research course and utilized subjects, the discrepancy analysis between information literacy and PC user, the discrepancy analysis between information literacy and the attendance of the advanced mathematics, as well as the length of schooling discrepancy analysis of information literacy.The fifth part according to the result of the analysis of reality, it put forward the problem and countermeasure existing in the development of students'information literacy: to build up the leader's awareness of information and to advance the teaching administration department's cognition of information literacy; to improve teachers'information cultivation and guarantee the qualified teaching staff for the elevation of students'information cultivation; to boost up the construction of campus network which can provide an important backbone for actualization of information literacy; to foster the idea of life-long study and enhance students'awareness of information literacy; to reinforce the moral education of students and to improve information morality to safeguard the full development of information cultivation ; to set up a course on literacy index and to make full use of library and electronic reading-room to enhance students'information literacy; to infiltrate education of information literacy into academic specialty education ;to take the road of combining production and to study together and to provide important support for students'education of information literacy; to accept gender difference of students and strengthen the cultivation of information literacy for girl students; to set up a optional course of advanced mathematics to improve their comprehensive ability of information literacy.The sixth part sums up the researching work in brief. It points out the innovation and the ointment.
