With the development of computer technology and the advances in network technology,the research of network education has become a hot field. As network education from therestrictions of time and space, it provided for learners with more space and more liberal ways.However, the current network learning system tends to "teachers (system) centered", whichrequired students to adaptive the system, and neglected the student itself initiative function. Itasked users to adapt system rather than the system to adapt users. It not fully carries on theeducation according to person's study rule, therefore so on many questions caused. To solvethese problems, a "student centered" adaptive learning system has become a hot topic ofresearch in the field at home and abroad.However, the current adaptive learning system exists in the form of HTML. That couldnot sharing resources, which has led to duplication of development and waste a lot ofmanpower and resources. Furthermore, the learning system and the student model onlyconsider the level of the student's knowledge, neglect of the feelings of students, motivation,cognitive style considerations. Cognitive Style is the individual understanding, storage,conversion and use of the information on the way which the attitude and the preferencerelative stability. Learners in the study time, location, teaching materials, teacher training andother conditions similar to the circumstances, the study results may be inconsistent, even a bigdifference. The reason is cognitive style is the one of most important factor.On the theory of Richerd Riding's cognitive style, using data mining techniques to createa student model based on cognitive style of the Semantic Web, which to solve the deficienciesthe adaptive learning systems in students model.Chaper1, it summarized the development of the adaptive learning system and analyzedthe current situation, described the semantic Web architecture, and expounded on the currentdevelopment applications. To made a comparison in the method of the student modelconstruction between domestic and foreign adaptive learning system.Chaper2, it has discussed the Rationale and the technical support of student model inadaptive learning system.Chaper3, it discussed the design and description of student model in adaptive learningsystem, and elaborated the method from the data mining to analysis and processing, and howto construct the student cognition style model.Chaper4, it carried on the concrete realization of student model in adaptive learningsystem of the semantic web which based on cognition style.Chaper5, it summarized the whole thesis, and proposed the work we have to do in thefuture.
