A new round of basic education reform measures have gone through the experimentation stage and are being wildly adopted. In order to effectively adopt the new Chinese curriculum and to facilitate the curriculum reform, it is necessary to correctly understand and interpret the key concepts of the humanism-oriented view, or people-oriented view, on the new Chinese curriculum. Although there have been significant studies on the general issue of people-oriented education in the literature, we haven't seen much in-depth studies specific to the new Chinese curriculum. Therefore, it is of theoretical and practical importance to provide a systemic interpretation of the people-oriented view of the new Chinese curriculum. This thesis is an attempt to provide such a systematic interpretation. The approach I'm taking is to leverage the existing studies on people-oriented education and through the thorough understanding of the background and theoretical foundation on which the people-oriented view of education has originated. I will also explore the practical issues such as guiding principles and/or requirements from the people-oriented view of the new Chinese curriculum.I believe that the new Chinese curriculum fully conforms to the core concept of"promoting the excellence of every student"and establishes a new people-oriented view on education. It exceeds the traditional view of Chinese education in that it emphasizes on the value of the Chinese education in the development of a student's whole life. This thesis is outlined as follow.1. The background of the people-oriented view of the new Chinese curriculumThe people-oriented view of the new Chinese curriculum did not come out of thin air. The modern world puts higher requirements on education and the current Chinese curriculum faces reality challenges– this was the practical background; and better understanding of the purposes and characteristics of Chinese education provided the scientific basis.2. The value of the people-oriented view of the new Chinese curriculumThe New Chinese Curriculum reform is originated from quality-oriented education, which is opposed to exam-oriented education. The purpose of quality-oriented education is to cultivate students to be persons of integrity– that is, persons who have not only disciplinary knowledge and capability but also healthy spiritual world and respectable personality. Chinese education must serve this purpose and lay emphasis on people-oriented educational ideas. It must establish the infrastructure of the goal, the strategy and the methodology of people-oriented Chinese education.3. The requirements on teaching practices for implementing people-oriented new Chinese curriculumThe significance of people-oriented new Chinese curriculum in guiding practical Chinese teaching is exactly its practical significance. In order to implement people-oriented teaching practice in Chinese education, one must abide by the principles of life - maximizing return to life; follow the principles of experience– inspiring the student's greatest life potential; adhere to the principles of emotions– reflecting deep humanitarian spirit and realizing the value of"Chinese for life". In order to implement people-oriented teaching practice for Chinese education, one must develop various forms of Chinese courses; strive in building people-oriented teaching materials; fully explore teachers'life potential; focus on students, who are the active players in Chinese language education; reflect the value of"Chinese for life". In order to implement people-oriented teaching practice in Chinese education, one must reflect the philosophy of"for life"and construct thriving, vibrant and colorful Chinese classroom education. |
