The instructors of university are the most direct administrator to students. Their identity plays great influence on the healthy growth of students. At present, the instructors' identity of Southwest University also has flaw. This will bring negative influence on students to some degree. Therefore, the establishment of good identity for instructors will be certainly one of important tasks for university. On the basis of literature review, the author discovered the related research still had deficiency and limitation, which made this study necessary.Through "Ideal Instructor's Identity Questionnaire" and "Instructor's Identity Questionnaire", demonstration research and analysis was first adopted in the investigation on both the ideal instructor identity and the present situation of it from the students' point of view in Southwest University. The research was carried out among 500 students in Southwest University. The core concept of this research was instructor's identity, so the author defined instructor's identity from three dimensions: professional ethics, behavior and appearance. Though calculating, which indicated the Questionnaires accorded with the requirements of measurement subject and its results were credible. The results of this study showed:1. Students in Southwest University had higher expectation to instructor's identity; The students tended to be satisfied with the instructor's identity, and the appraisal to behavior was the lowest one.2. There was significant difference between the ideal instructor's identity and the realistic instructor's identity.3. There was no sex difference in the cognition of instructor's identity in Southwest University4. There was significant grade difference in the student's expectation to the instructor's identity in Southwest University; the appraisal to the instructors' appearance in Southwest University showed significant grade difference5. There was major difference in the expectation of instructor's appearance; the appraisal to instructors' professional ethics in Southwest University showed significant major difference.6. Students from different places had significant difference in their expectation to instructor's behaviors and appearance, but had the consistent evaluation in the constructor's overall identity.7. The student thought that the function of instructors were "guidance", "consultation", "stimulation", "instruction" and "cohesion"; The students thought that the worst behavior of instructors were "disrespectful behavior", "unfair behavior", "irresponsible behavior", "mean behavior" and "imperious behavior".The biggest innovation of the research is that the author has made the demonstration research comprehensively on instructor's identity of Southwest University from students' point of view, and made a comparison between the ideal instructor's identity and the realistic instructor's identity. Based on the results of this research, this essay probes into the essence characteristics and puts forward some strategy for promoting the instructor's identity of Southwest University. It would provide the theory basis and direction for the instructor's work in Southwest University and even all universities in Chongqing to some degree.
