Since 1980s, economic globalization has become an irreversible trend, and under this trend the promotion of global cross-border movement of personnel is one of the most direct consequences. To grand the demand of economic globalization on the international personnel, we should make effort in education, especially higher education. Nowadays, our country is in the stage of reform and development, so, there is no shirking the responsibility for higher education to shoulder the mission of training international personnel.Since the beginning of its establishment, Higher education in the United States is marked with internationality and openness, currently, as one of the most developed countries in higher education, the united states has accumulated a lot of experience in internationalization of higher education in its more than 200 years of development.In the first part of this paper, Time is the clue, author looks back the development of internationalization of higher education in the USA and analyzes the feature of its input and output period, In the second part, to account for the drivers of internationalization of higher education in the USA, there are several effects have been put forward. To begin with, the extrinsic factors include economic globalization, development of higher education, information society, international competition and the need of solving international problems. In addition, put together governmental force, folk power, scholar and organization of education, which comprised the intrinsic factors. In the third part, paper introduces the Practice forms which were taken by American higher education in the process of internationalization, which mainly includes interaction and communication of students, of teachers and of scholar, moreover, such as internationalization of curriculum, educational communication of different countries and establishment of academic organization. In the last part, paper concludes the basic feature and experience of the internationalization of American higher education, which includes insisting on the ideal of internationalization, strengthening the enforcement of intervention which is given by federal government to higher education, enlarging higher education' autonomy and so on. Meanwhile, some suggestions for internationalization of higher education in China also are brought forward in this part.From what have been discussed above, author hopes that the article is helpful for the development of higher education in China in the 21st century.
