Strategy is the ways and means of fulfilling enterprises' missions and goals, while strategic management is the process to determine enterprises' missions and goals, choose specific strategy in accordance with the actual conditions, and implement the strategy through certain tactical operations.Nowadays, with the integration with the knowledge-based economy, information-based economy and global economy, the environment of global higher education have taken such great changes that higher education is ongoing a transition from elitism education to mass education. And this is the same with China's higher education. The government does not monopolize as it used to but lead all the high schools to develop in their own ways, which makes the high schools face with a competitive environment. Therefore, high schools must analyze and study the changes and trends in the environment of higher education, as well as the actual conditions of high schools' development. Besides, they should also establish their own strategies for development and coping measures to show their strong points, give greatest play to its advantage and form their own characteristic so that the school can survive the fierce competition and make further development. Western higher schools have introduced strategic management into education since 1950s. After 30 years China started exploring the way of strategic management.With the strategic analysis of the current situation and development trend of education at home and abroad, this thesis discusses and figures out how Guangdong University of Business Studies explores its breakthrough point for self-development under the fierce competition, when making the strategic program. Moreover, it analyzes the strengths and weaknesses of the university so as to further consolidate the brand it has had. Preparing for the change from teaching and studying to teaching and researching, we should make clear the position of running the school, optimize the conditions, strengthen the subject construction, form a more distinguishing feature, and turn out graduates fitting for the development of Guangdong economy.This thesis mainly analyzes the development strategy of Guangdong University of Business Studies. It will be elucidated and proved in four aspects as follows: firstly, useful information is screened for the development strategy of Guangdong University of Business Studies, according to the study conditions and development trends of development strategy here and abroad, as well as the current situation and trend of higher education's development in China.Secondly, comparative advantages, comparative disadvantages, challenges and opportunities will be analyzed and evaluated in terms of the school's history and current situation, and contrast will be made among the main rivals' situations on resource, capability and competitive power. The third one is to discuss the strategic position and the strategic choice based on the second aspect. Finally, it will be put forward that the steps of strategic management's implementation and its guarantee measures on the basis of the definitude of the development strategy's direction.By means of the analysis of the development strategy of our school, the thesis is in hope of offering some new thoughts and some helpful references for development strategy of high schools.
