Teaching, an activity with a strong purpose, aims to help the students to learn knowledge, to acquire skills, to explore their intelligence, and to develop their attitudes and qualities. In our curriculum reform, the greatest challenge that a class-teaching encounters is the problem of "effectiveness", which is the essence of teaching and the primary problem that any teaching reform has to deal with. Therefore, having an effective teaching is the basic requirement in the reform of geography curriculum. Guided by the scientific theories such as New Geography Curriculum Theory, Geography Teaching Methodology, Modern Learning Theory and so on, the paper makes an analysis on the present geography class-teaching and puts forward some effective teaching strategies. Furthermore, the results of both theoretical and practical researches are present in this paper on the most effective combination of various teaching contents and teaching strategies/models. This paper consists of four parts: an introduction on effective geography teaching; a study on the present effective teaching of new geography curriculum; effective teaching strategies of new geography curriculum; a practical study on effective teaching of new geography curriculum.Part I: An Introduction on Effective Geography Teaching. This part tries to make clear what geography effective teaching is and what its features are. Meanwhile, an analysis on the operation of the effective teaching has been made from three aspects: teaching contents and teaching methods etc..Part II: A Study on the Present Effective Teaching of New Geography Curriculum. In this part, the necessity of having a strategy study on effective teaching is stressed from two levels. One is by making an analysis on the effectiveness of teaching contents on the basis of a comparison between traditional geography curriculum and new geography curriculum; the other is by pointing out the disadvantages in present new geography curriculum teaching according to an analysis on our in-class teaching.Part III: Effective Teaching Strategies of New Geography Curriculum. As the core of this paper, it focuses on the study of effective objectives and strategies in new geography curriculum teaching, which leads to the rising of a creative teaching method, and the idea of exploring the effective teaching resources as well.Part IV: A Practical Study on Effective Teaching of New Geography Curriculum. In terms of the analysis on the standards of new geography curriculum and the effectiveness of teaching contents, some effective strategies are chosen and designed so as to make a teaching experiment. The results of the experiment have been compared and analyzed, which helps us to make a further consideration on geography teaching. The conclusion part is a summary of this paper. All the main views are generalized, and at the same time, some imperfects in my research are identified, which will be remained for a further study.
