Mankind has to impart the labor skills, cultural knowledge, moral conception and social customs to its offsprings via education so as to survive , regenerate and develop. As the cradle of the western civilization, the Ancient Greece is not the exceptional case. Through teaching the youngsters knowledge and experience, teachers cultivate and shape generations and generations of talents who can not only join produtive activities, but also take part in the social activities. Owing to differing in politics, economy and geography, the development of education of each city-state is different from each other. This thesis exemplifies Sparta and Athen, mainly analyzing the professional development of ancient Greek teachers from 2000BC to 30BC.The long period is dividedinto four: The teachers in Homeric Age (1100BC——800BC)—Homer and Hesiod;Theteachers in Achaic Age (800BC——500BC)—Sparta's military educators and Athen'steachers and paidagogues; The teachers in Classical Age (500BC——334BC)—sophistsin early times and Three Phylosopher(Socrates,Plato and Aristotle); The teachers in Hellenistic Age (334BC——30BC)—the gradural specialization in teachers profession. The whole thesis is grouped into six parts. The first part is an introduction, including research motive, present research situation, the commentary on the literature and the research methods. In part two, the education in Homeric Age is discussed, mainly analysing the two teachers—Phoenix and Cheiron in Iliad, and fathers as the teachers as well. Part three shows us the two distinctive education systems in Athen and Sparta, the city-states. We are faced with two different kinds of teachers: Sparta's military educators and Athen's teachers and paidagogues. The former describes the teachers in agelai and ephebi. The latter attaches importance to the description of the teachers in primary school, middle school and the higher education institutions respectively. The representation of the the earliest professional teachers—sophists in early period ,and "Three elite majoring in philosophy" is the focus of the fourth part,in addition to this ,the lower social position of teachers in Athen and pederasty-unique relationship between the teachers and the students in ancient Greece are also involved in this part. In part five, the author simply describes the change of education itself and the teachers in Hellenistic Age. The last part is the conclusion. The author generalizes the developing characteristics of Ancient Greece's teachers.
