Sports have experienced several thousand years of development and evolution,which has been always accompanied human civilization and progress and can be called a potent force. In modern society it is becoming increasingly important as a cultural form. One important reason is that the spirit produced and accumulated in sport has played a very important role to regulate human behavior, to raise people's moral and improve social civilization. Especially in Western social development process, "sport spirit" created by Greeks has been the irreplaceable role of the rise of capitalism since the Renaissance. China's sports takes the West as the main sports, but when we introduced the sports from the West, instead of considering how to introduce together with their cultural foundation, what's more in our minds just to consider how to draw more specific. However, being one kind of cultural form, the sports contain the rich cultural connotation. The relations of the sports and politics, the economy, the culture as well as the society development are close. In particular each kind of spirit or the quality related with the sports behavior all has the close relation with nationality's developing process. This needs us to carry on the discussion to the sports spiritual value, in order to perform and to use.If a nationality, a society does not have one kind of advanced cultural spirit to provide the value strut, the behavior guidance and the strength conformity for the people will lose the stable direction of advance. The sports takes one kind of social culture activity, if it lacks the sports spirit, lacks "the soul", also will certainly to move towards the erroneous zone. This paper took the sports spirit as one kind of standard for the adjustment sports life, the sports phenomenon as well as the social life and the social phenomenon and discussed the role that the sports spirit locates the status and plays in the cultural structure.This paper utilized the literature summary law, the dialectical materialism and the historical materialism method and the etymology study method to carry on the analysis to the sports spirit concept and the connotation research, to discuss the historical reason and the realistic reason for our country sports spirit absence and to explain the significance of constructing the contemporary sports spirit, the principle ,the pattern and the way of the sports spirit construction, as well as the questions which should pay attention during the construction of contemporary sports spirit, finally drew the conclusion as below:(1) The connotation and main content of sports spirit. The sports spirit is value ideas formed through the sports and accepted by the human universally, which mainly manifests the wisdom and the enterprising consciousness and belongs to the in-depth structure of sports culture with the relative stability. The sports spirit frequently relates with the appreciation behavior in sports background, moreover it is also frequently expanded to the other domains in life. From the practice angle to understand sports-spirit, it mainly contains the principles, such as fair play, sportsmanship and teamwork. These are most important value ideas in the human society life, and are generally esteemed and accepted by all walks of life.(2) Because the lack of sports spirit in the contemporary China, we need to construct the sports spirit, moreover the function of sports spirit in the western society development can show us some experiences. The sports spirit is helpful to the prompt revision and unblock of social morbid state mood, which is also the inside story, driving force and essential factor for the health development of Chinese sports. The sports spirit can promote person's full scale development.(3)The construction of sports spirit must conform to the Chinese national condition and the time characteristic. Presently, we are facing the very contradictory historic task: While constructs free aware rationalized cultural pattern, we have to consider to its critique and the revision. The sports spirit only in conformity process with different nations and in the different time society culture, can realize own construction with the consummation. As the social culture branch, the sports similarly have the time request to pursue advancement. The advancement of the sports culture can be recognized through raising people's social moral level, to promote the people body and mind health development, to enhance own esthetic appeal, to promote society's civilization and so on which is also the demand to the sports spirit. Therefore the construction of sports spirit is the need for constructing advanced sports culture at present age also is the time request.
