The 21st century has witnessed the explosion of knowledge, the introduction of information technology and the increasing tendency of globalization development, which endow the whole human kind a huge challenge as well as an unexpected great chance to accelerate its development. Universities, the power station and brain trust, transfer into the center of society from the edge. All these phenomena lead to an immense impact on the university professor's outlooks like teaching, research and serving, etc, as a result the traditional university professor's role can not meet the demand that the society and economics ask for more development. In such new situation, if the university professors are willing to take their social responsibilities and historic mission, they will have to undertake a series of roles shift. This thesis is rooted the following questions which are also going to be settled by the study: What are the root and branches for university professor's professional role? What are the types and characteristics? What significance does the university professor's professional role have in promoting the development of universities and society? What malposition and conflicts are there in the performance of university professor's professional role? What are the standards and approaches to manage the university professor's professional role?The thesis is composed in the way of combining theory into practice, that is, theories come first and practical cased follow afterwards. First, the definition, cause, and significance of university professor's professional role are discussed theoretically in the thesis, then on the foundation of above theoretical analysis, come the problems and challenges which university professor's professional role are confronted with, furthermore, the standards and approaches to solve the problems are put forward. Owning to the complexity of Higher Education's participant and organization, the traditional sociology and education can not manage to describe and settle all the issues in Higher Education. Thus, it is very necessary to make the relevant subjects of sociology, education and management science use for reference. Different research methods are employed to complete the study which focuses on a special object, i.e. university professors.The first part of the body is ontology research in which the university professor's professional role is defined through analysis on the nature and definition of university professors, and the types and characteristics of it are discussed in detail.The second part is epistemology research in which how university professor develops into a sort of profession is explored in the clue of the original meaning of university professor. In addition, the author also probes into what roles shift do the university professors experience with this profession coming into being in this part.The third part is axiology research in which the author deeply analyzes, in the perspective of Higher Education and sociology, what significance the university professor's professional role has in academic management, administration, criticizing and serving society.The forth part is practice research in which begins with the dissertation of the problems confronting with the university professor's professional role and the conflicts arising from the development of science and society, then the standards and approaches to manage the university professor's professional role are meticulously expounded.The thesis is designed to contribute to producing significance in both theory and practice on enriching and improving the Higher Education theories with Chinese characteristics, while consummating the Higher Institution manage system, igniting the university professors to be active and positive, in this way encouraging them to fulfill their social responsibility and historic mission.Comparing to the research level of the university professor's professional role at present, the innovation of this thesis lies in the dissertation and analysis on university professor's role in various perspectives, adhering to follow the research method that combines the theories with practice, and history with reality. |
