The teaching method is the main body of the chemistry teaching system, to achieve the goal of the teaching, fulfills the teaching tasks to act on the object as well as the ways and means of acting on the other elements in the system. The teaching system contains two parts, the guidance and the learner. Therefore, the chemistry teaching method is made up of the methods of guiding and learning which are related to each other. The chemistry teaching method has a developing process, from the single teaching method to compound guide-learn methods, from simple basic method to the complicated integrating method, even integrating system, from the knowledge-taught method to multiple composed method connecting all the teaching steps. The teaching of chemistry mainly consists of teachers, students, teaching contents and teaching instruments. Teaching instruments contain teaching methods and teaching material aids. In the classroom teaching, teachers, students are relatively fixed; teaching contents and teaching material aids are on the whole fixed; while only teaching methods are of some flexibility. In this case, chemistry teachers can choose or create suitable teaching methods to ensure their teaching effect on the basis of teaching contents, students' cognitive performance and interests, and school teaching material aids. Therefore, the choosing and adopting of the teaching methods become the key to the achievement of teaching purposes, accomplishment of teaching tasks, and the accelerating of students' development. The author of this thesis puts forward a three-level classification of the teaching methods according to his classifying many a teaching method promoted by some scholars and his own chemistry teaching practice. This three-level classification of the teaching methods syncretizes present teaching methods, thus making the teaching of chemistry more elaborate and plenary. Having investigated the first-level teaching methods which adopted by some 100 chemistry teachers in their classroom teaching and done certain statistic analysis, the author has got more comprehensive and practical data of the first-level teaching methods, which will surely be of great value to the understanding of the present teaching and learning of chemistry. In the last chapter, the author of this thesis advances the optimizing strategies for different kinds of classroom teaching of chemistry in accordance with the comprehensively investigating of the present teaching of chemistry, which will be of certain help and guidance to the optimizing of the classroom teaching of chemistry. The writer holds that many teaching methods have their advantages and disadvantages. In order to teach the New Curriculum, we should redeem and combine different teaching methods, and re-combine the similarities to form the integral predominance. Based on the teaching goal, content, method and the object, we should combine some advanced elements from the teaching methods; namely, constitute different flexible teaching methods fit for the chemistry teaching in senior school.
