Developing students' creativity is the key point in education in China now. It is the most challenging mission for the contemporary teachers to cultivate students'creativity. It is also the teachers' main task to supply the knowledge-based age with abundant talented people for the development of our country not only for the present but also for the future. President Jiang Zeming once said, "Creativity is the soul of our nation. It is the creativity that makes a nation prosperous and flourishing. Creativity grows in talented persons and talented persons are brought up in the process of education." In the teaching practice, teachers always value the development of the students' logical thinking ability very much. The development of the non-logical thinking ability, however, is often neglected. Especially the intuitive thinking ability, which is the most important element of non-logical thinking ability, has also been neglected or even ignored by many people because it is a concept that many people are not sure of. As a matter of fact, the intuitive thinking ability is as important as the logical thinking ability. They support mutually and depend on each other so much that one can not exist without the other. It plays a leading role in the process of the scientific research nowadays because Competence-oriented Education is paid special attention to. So it is of great importance for the teachers to cultivate students' intuitive thinking ability because such students can meet the demands of the society. It is also the current need of the education reform and the progress of the society.Questionnaires and teaching experiment are used in the study of training the students' intuitive thinking ability in the teaching of English reading in senior high school. Firstly, the teachers should reinforce the students' basic knowledge of vocabulary and grammar, including the word formation, essential sentence structure and effective reading strategies, to lay foundations for the development of intuitive thinking ability. The teachers do this because intuitive thinking ability is the production of the related experience and basic knowledge. Secondly, the teachers should always keep in mind that the reading materials should be taught and understood as a whole. Having more knowledge about other nations' cultural background is also helpful for the students in developing students' intuitive thinking ability, that is to say, the teachers need to help the students to gain cultural consciousness by offering them all kinds of related cultural knowledge. Thirdly, since self-confidence is necessary in the development of the students' intuitive thinking ability, the teachers must change the teaching methods to democratize the atmosphere in class, encourage the students to use their intuitive thinking correctly as often as possible. The students who are trained in the teaching experiment can solve problems in the reading process in intuitive thinking ways after a seven-month study and teaching experiment. The results are as follows: The students can guess the meaning of the whole passage according to the related knowledge and the meaning of new words according to the context, they can understand the reading passage as a whole, their thinking process is shortened and an overall development of their thinking ability is obtained. Conclusion can be drawn that it is necessary and effective to cultivate the students' intuitive thinking ability in the teaching of English reading to the senior high school students. But, we still need to keep in mind that logical thinking should be considered together with the intuitive thinking to verify the results which come from the intuitive thinking process because these results may not always be right. Moreover, it takes long to develop students' intuitive thinking ability, so the conclusion drawn from this study needs to be testified in the later teaching practice and study.
