Abstract/Summary:
As a generally used language for modern technology, mathematics serves as the basis of all the aspects dealt with science and technology. With the rapid development of modern science and technology, mathematics plays the most important part in any curriculum. Among all the basic courses designed for vocational education, mathematics is to not only provide the specialized courses with mathematics symbols, formulae, and conclusions, but also help to develop the students'intelligence and reserve basic knowledge for their lifelong learning in the future. It is believed that it cannot be replaced by any other courses in vocational education. However, the current situation of mathematics teaching in vocational school is disappointing. There are a large number of mathematics slow students. They do not show much interest in this course, and they are low motivated. As a result, they did poorly in it. Thus, it is high time we took the students'learning motivation into consideration so as to introduce a proper learning approach that is adaptive to the students.Motivation is a force factor for the students'to get themselves engaged in the learning activities. It is a psychological force factor that directly pushes the students to take efforts in attempting to achieve their setting goals. Actually, motivation is a determining factor for any learning process among the variety of non-intelligent ones. The learning effects will be positive when the students are developed with learning motivation. To maintain an efficient long-term learning process, motivation is absolutely necessary. Therefore, it is of both theoretical and practical importance to study the students'mathematics learning motivation, discover its law, and control the factors that affect their learning. Hence, we can teach our students with a pertinent approach to improve their mathematics achievements by enhancing their interest and motivation. This is also the focus of the present study. This study started with a survey on the students'motivation and interest, which aimed to know about the types and intrinsic quality of the motivation that the vocational school students possess. Four findings were achieved, which are shown as follows:Firstly, four types of the vocational school students'motivation ordered from strong to weak as compulsive motivation, affiliated drive, ego-enhancement drive and cognitive drive.Secondly, the students'gender and specialty significantly influenced the forming of their mathematics learning cognitive drive and compulsive motivation. However, there were neither any significant differences between their ego-enhancement drive and affiliated drive, nor any in the...
