As the main trend of the 21st century education, education for innovative ability has drawn widespread attention among countries around the world. Aiming at swift conversion of new knowledge, new technologies and new materials into productivity, this new type of education system focuses on nurturing creativity and innovation ability. With rapid development of intelligence economy it plays a determining role. To meet the challenges posed by the international intelligence-driven economic environment, we must shoulder the historical mission that the era calls upon us to educate competent individuals in various fields.This subject is derived from the Jiangsu Education and Science Project"Research on the Education System to Strengthen Innovation Spirit and Practice Ability of University Students". Its purpose is to set up innovation education concept as its core, to break the old education mode, to create an new education mode to develop innovative individuals as basic evaluating criteria, and to find out proper nurturing procedure to improve innovative and practice ability of students in science and technology, so it serves as a good reference for common science and technology universities in innovation education.This paper covers the following topics: Research Background of Innovation Education, Trend and Characteristics of Innovation Education Home and Abroad, Implication and Characteristics of Innovation Education, Research on Theoretical Issues of Innovation Education; Practical Research on Innovation Education for Students in Science and Technology, Case Study on Innovation Education for Students in Science and Technology and so on.This paper focuses on comparison research on trend and characteristics of innovation education between China and developed countries around the world and illustrates the implication and basic features of innovation education. It calls on cultivation of individuals with innovative ability in intelligence-driven economic era and delves into basic theoretical issues concerning innovation education for students in science and technology. It carries out comprehensive analyses and studies regarding disadvantages with China's traditional education mode by combining theories with realities, from macro view to micro view, by balancing static analysis with dynamic and by coordinating reasonably the components and optimizing the whole system. Based on theories of higher education and psychology and proceeding from the innovation education for students in science and technology of our university, a framework of innovation education system has been constructed for cultivating innovative ability for technology and science universities, and practical diversifying teaching mode has been proposed, then a way to implement cultivation of innovation and practice abilities among students in science and technology has also been found.
