The metacognition refers to the cognition and recognition of one's own cognizing activity, the core of which is self-regulation. Education in 21st century calls for 'Learning Individual', the characteristic of which is the ability of self- regulation in learning process. The cultivation of 'Learning Individual' requires fostering students' ability of conscious-control in learning activities.According to psychological studies, teen-age period is a crucial period for developing the ability of cognition and metacognition. It is an important instructional tactic to develop students' metacognition ability in chemistry lessons of senior high school.Problem solving is a staple component in students' cognizance process. This paper focuses on specific inquiry of senior students' metacognition level in the process of chemistry problem solving,, meanwhile, relevant ability training is implemented on students with different levels of metacognition. In order to study the specific circumstances of senior high school students' ability to utilize metacognition, this paper designed a questionnaire that is aimed to find students' metacognition level in the process of problems solving. The questionnaire is composed of two parts—Part A and Part B. With specific chemistry subjects as medium, Part A mainly reflects the investigation on the specific circumstances of students' problems solving in the process of chemistry learning. Part B is related to Part A and mainly reflects the investigation on students' metacognition level in chemistry problem solving process.According to the studies of the questionnaire, this paper confirms that there is a comparativly apparent difference in the general metacognition level between top students and poor students in chemistry problem solving. On the other side, difference in metacognition level between average students and poor ones is small. This paper also finds that even in the same category of students, testees' metacognition levels vary a lot. Poor students have a relativly low level of metacognition on each component, compared to either top students or average students. On the basis of analysis of students' metacognition level, this paper implements relevant trainings on metacognition ability. This paper adopts six instructional methods named self-questioning, result inspecting, experience intensifying, effective memory, problem-solving tactics and goal management, all of which are aimed at improving students' level of metacognition. The result of the...
