Listening is an important component of language ability as well as core to social activities. It plays a key role in language teaching and learning. Listening teaching is a crucial part in teaching English. However, for a long time listening teaching has not been paid enough attention to. Till recent years, this phenomenon has changed little by little, but listening teaching remains lagging behind. The situation in Vocational Educational Schools is even worse. Teachers in Vocational Educational Schools do not pay enough attention to it. Some schools don't even have listening teaching courses. The phenomenon of "deaf-mute" English among students is so serious that it has hindered development of English teaching. Apparently, the current situation of listening teaching is still not satisfactory. According to the previous documents, the available researches mainly focus on listening teaching in primary school, middle school and college. There is little research on listening teaching in Vocational Educational Schools. How should it be taught in Vocational Educational Schools? How to improve the students' listening? These are worthy questions for the English teachers of Vocational Educational Schools to seriously think about. This article explores factors that affect listening level of vocational students through observation, interview, investigation, test and research exchange. By doing so, it aims to construct a better listening teaching system for Vocational Educational Schools so as to promote its teaching reform and improve students' English listening level.This paper does some researches on its factors of affecting the listening level of the vocational students, based on the basis of literature review in this field and the author's teaching experience. There are many factors affecting the teaching of listening. This paper introduces and analyses the current situation and problems from the aspects of teachers, teaching materials, teaching methods and students. Furthermore, the paper puts forward a series of strategies to optimize the English listening teaching of Vocational Educational Schools.The whole paper consists of four chapters:Chapter One states the background and the practical significance of the study and the structure of this dissertation.Chapter Two introduces the theoretical basis of English listening teaching. The summary of the literature and the introductory of the related theory mainly include the concept of listening and English listening, the development procedures of listening, the analysis for the factors of affecting the vocational students' English listening level, and some main modern teaching methods of English listening.Chapter Three presents the experimental project. Through investigation, interview and tests, it briefly introduces the current situation of English listening teaching in Vocational Educational Schools, and analyzes many factors of affecting the teaching of listening. This article mainly introduces exterior factors (teacher, language material and teaching methods) and the internal factors (students' language foundation, background, strategy and psychological quality).
