At present, the inquiry instruction is not only held in high esteem in the circle of theoretical studies, but also very popular in the field of science teaching in primary schools. However, in the teaching practice, it has met with various doubts and difficulties. At the same time, the present study on this topic shows the backwardness in persuasive and rational thinking and practical research.This study attempts to find the necessary conditions under which the instruction can be put into practice and the factors that influence its utilization, by describing and analyzing the teaching practice of this inquiry instruction. On the basis of this, a reflection on this theory will be made in a relatively convincing way. And the thesis will also give some deep thoughts upon and possible solutions to the problems in the curriculum reform.The first chapter defines the research object and questions of this paper, sorts out the research status about this question, introduces the frame, process and methods of this study, and points out the value and weak points of this study.In Chapter II, Introduce the theoretical basis for inquiry instruction at first, especially make the efforts to sort out the teaching conditions of inquiry instruction in theory, and reveals the necessity for primary school to use inquiry instruction method to teach science.The third chapter is the display and analysis about the survey. It describes the current states of the inquiry instruction in the primary schools in Districts of A and B in Shanghai, from internal and external aspects.Based on the theoretical analysis in the second chapter and the investigation in the third chapter, the conditions for realizing the inquiry instruction are pointed out in the fourth chapter from three levels, i.e., the level of teachers, schools and social environment.In chapter 5 of the paper, I displayed a case of practical research, in order to provide a vivid illustration and a practical proof for the above theoretical analysis, and thus to serve as an enlightenment and a reference for those who seek to practice the inquiry approach.
