Researches on children's mathematics learning strategy have been abundant in recent years. It has been gradually recognized that children may get lots of experience on mathematics in sense in early childhood. For children aged 5-6 years who have known a lot on knowledge and skills on mathematics may have great influence on their elementary life. This study is to find out the different operation strategies selected by preschool children at the beginning of learning addition and subtraction operation, the course of selecting operation strategy and the development of the operation ability; to analyze and find out the characteristics and discriminations in young children's selecting computing strategy, the relationship between the development of young children's mathematics and their operation strategy selection, with the hope of advancing the study on young children's operation strategy selection, and offering the theory evidence and reference for improving young children's mathematical teaching and accelerating the development of young children's mathematical ability. In addition, I expect that the results of this study can be a copy of demonstration data in the study of mental abacus operation.A sample of 60 young children (Mean=71, Sd = 3.7) who has studied mental abacus operation and 60 young children (Mean=70, Sd=4.0) who has never studied it was selected from four ordinary preschools in Shanghai. They all experienced education on the mathematical operation with no other training on the fleetly computing skill besides teaching of reckoning by the abacus. Individual interview, spoken report and observation of young children's operating process and response fashion were adopted to investigate children's mastery of the addition and subtraction operation and of the strategy selection. The results are: 1) children aged 5-6 are in "strategy enrichment" stage in operation strategy, with the characteristic of diversity. 2) the positive correlation emerged between the development of young children's operation strategy and their operation ability is not on the number of the strategy, but on young children's ability to select the strategy. 3) difficulties and representations on subjects have influence on children's selection of computer strategy. 4) the score of the addition and subtraction operation in children with learning mental abacus operation is higher than that in children without learning it. But it can not be attribute only to the mental abacus operation. 5) children who have learned mental abacus operation seldom rely on the strategy they learned from...
