Reading is one vital part in Middle School Education. As a subject with artistic and instrumental value, curricular reading is indispensable. Yet, curricular reading actually originates from reading after school. Therefore, strengthening the effort of reading after school is imperative. But what troubling us now is the current status of students' extra-curricular reading. It is now in a predicament because of the exam oriented education and the conception of the teachers, parents and students.Bao'an Region of Shenzhen is located in the outskirts of Shenzhen. A lot of people from other provinces have immigrated here. That not only results in a large population but also leads to the disparity in students' quality and the low proportion of educated parents. These people who are formerly farmers lack the ability to create an appropriate environment or atmosphere for their children to practise reading after school. The status in quo is really not optimistic. Based on the surveys on the real status of the extra-curricular reading of the students in our region, my research is trying to find the existing problems and the cause of them, thus putting forward some proper strategies to change the situation. Through these efforts, we hope we can cultivate their comprehensive ability so that they can meet the demands of the ever-accelerated development of the Special Zone.In order to investigate the condition of extra-curricular reading of the students in the middle school in Bao'an Region, Shenzhen, I have designed some questionnaires. Through these researches, I found the following problems were worth studying.
