Comrade Deng Xiaoping said, "The summary of history will be for starting the future." Under the background of the latest curriculum reform of elementary education, it is not only rich in practical significance, moreover also has fundamental research value to today's construction of mathematics curriculum that we thoroughly understand and comprehensively grasp the whole development course of mathematics textbooks of elementary school in new China, and conduct the longitudinal research from the history angle of the textbooks, to be used for reference to the construction of textbooks.According to the historical development vein of new China, this paper divides the 55 years development course of mathematics textbooks of elementary school into eight times, and mainly uses the method of consulting literature to carry on the discussion to the development of textbooks. It pays attention to the background of the reforms of mathematics textbooks of elementary school, and emphatically discusses the main course contents, the main characteristic and the prominent problem of textbooks. The results indicate that the textbooks both reflect the request of the change and development of politics, economy, culture and education, and are restricted to the level of science, technology as well as the law of the development of students' body and mind.
