In the contemporary age, we directly perceive that discipline is one of the striking features of modern school education. The outstanding feature of discipline is standardized. The following three aspects form the institutions of discipline in modern schools: bureaucratic institution in managing students, standardized evaluate institution and examinatorial institution. The institutions of discipline make the school management convenient, speedy and efficient. However, they restrain students to grow freely and cause them to lose their voluntary. Students are short of the spirit of independence and freedom.Schools are special systematized organizations that nurture persons. The disciplines in schools should be humanization that reflect children's innate demand. Consequently, disciplines should attach importance to lives and independence. They are the unity of the free willpower and self-restrain.Growing freely is dominating one's self-grow according to intrinsic requirement, but not subordinating external control passively. Independent education is a process that improves one's modernity, voluntariness, initiative and independence. Growing freely requires independent education.Education is a special behavior that it only exists in human society. To nurture persons is its essential character. Consequently, education should acquire the sense of valuing and concerning persons. The process of educating and teaching is the one in which people's thought and emotion can smoothly exchange and communicate, but not an unfeeling material-exchanged process.The whole paper is organized into five parts. Part One simply introduces the cause, purpose and significance of the research. Any more, it makes a literature review. Part Two, the body of the paper, describes the institutions of discipline in great detail in modern schools. Simultaneously, they are deeply discussed. Part Three presents the contradiction in operating the institutions of discipline and the affection on the growth of students. Therefore, the institutions of discipline are introspected and criticized. Part Four, the extension of the research, tries to expound the innate character and describe the ideal state of education. Part Five is the conclusion.
