With the development of social economy, more and more people are overweight. Fatness, which is paid close attention to, is becoming a serious public problem which influences people's health in China. The middle-aged are the backbones of social progress. Their health is related not only to the happiness of their own life and their families, but also to the future of the country. With the yearly changes of population structure in our country, the proportion of middle-aged people is becoming larger. Understanding the situation of overweight and fatness of the middle-aged and their exercises is of great significance to the social development. Henan Province, located in Central China with a large population, has more middle-aged people, So to study this group of people is of profound theoretical and practical significance.In this thesis, by literature, investigation and mathematical statistic, the author selects middle-aged people (aged 35– 49) from four cities of Henan Province as investigation objects, mainly investigates the status quo of overweight and fatness of them, how the overweight and the fat spent their leisure time and their participating in exercises, and summarized the purpose, courses, frequency, time and intensity of their anticipating and the reasons of not. It is found that the rate of overweight and fatness of the middle-aged in Henan Province is 55.14%. The situation is not optimistic. Physical exercise is not the main dominated ways of leisure time for overweight and fat people in middle ages. The rate of those participating in exercises is low, which is only 37.60%. Among the overweight and the fat, only 9.45% reached the standard of sports population of China. The frequency, time and intensity of exercises that meet the demands of slimming are respectively 21.17%, 24.41% and 18.66%. The purposes of exercises are various and slimming is not their main purpose. The courses of exercises they choose are easy. Walking and running are their first choice.
