With a significant importance and featured in confidence, enterprise and innovation, Song dynasty education had made special contribution to the development of education in ancient times and transcended the earlier ones,. These positive features could provide a lot of information to conduct reform and make improvement in the present education of Chinese literature and language. On the bases of extensive studies on the subject and using the concept of new courses reform, this paper focused on the positive factors in Song dynasty education and the implications for current Chinese education in middle school. Beginning with a summary of the education in Song dynasty, the background in which those features came about was discussed from the viewpoints of politics, economy and ideas. Then, in the second part, the positive features in setting teaching materials, inOrganization of teaching and its guiding principle, in learning and teaching methods and test systems were analyzed in details as well as the implications for current education. In the end, the flaws in the education during Song dynasty were mentioned, such as ignoring of actual meaning of "Questioning is important when learning" and the singular relation between content and its form.This paper innovatively reevaluated the positive features in education during Song dynasty using the concept of new course reform and pointed out that foresight is the common feature held by both Song education and the new courses reform. And the flaws in Song education were also discussed compared to the new courses reform.
