Cooperative learning, which sprang up in America in the 1970s, has now been recognized as a conspicuous teaching theory and strategy after dozens of years of development. Many of the studies conducted by researchers these years provide clear evidence that cooperative learning can help arouse students' interest in their learning, develop their ability of autonomous learning, cooperation and communication, and promote higher achievement in a wide range. In China, however, cooperative learning is still a newborn thing, especially to primary and middle school teachers who work in the very education front. Owing to the lack of a proper understanding of cooperative learning, there are usually some mistaken practices in the course of its implementation.In the past several years, I have been teaching English in Senior 3 all the time. As is known to all, teaching in Senior 3 focuses on revision: usually students take one test after another and teachers explain language points one after another. This kind of teaching seems boring not only to students but also to teachers. So in hope of arousing students' enthusiasm and improving my teaching attainment, I did a research on cooperative learning on the students from Class 4 and Class 12 that I taught in Jiangning Senior High.
