Teaching is a two-way operation, without students' participation, language teaching can not be effective. Students themselves must go through the leaniing process. The ultimate goal of English teaching is to cultivate students' abilities to interact. An effective way to realize the goal is through "interaction" which is the key of success in the English teaching. The application of the interaction patterns to English teaching lies on classroom practice. However, the study of the approach is still mainly concerned with the theory, while its application is largely neglected. Under the current circumstances, mis thesis tries to do such research questions: (1) How to create interaction patterns and apply these patterns into the English teaching of senior middle schools? (2)How to enhance the students' interest and motivation of learning English and to improve the students' language communicative competence and overall language abilities by using interaction patterns?This thesis explores the concept of "interaction", its theoretical basis and the principles to be followed of designing " interaction" activities. In Chapter Three the characteristics and the importance of EFL classroom interaction are discussed. Interaction patterns can not only elicit students' intrinsic motivation, but also can enhance students' competence of English knowledge and make the classroom the places of language, make students be the subjectivity in the learning processes. It can improve the students' communicative competence and performance as well. In Chapter Four, three principal interaction patterns—teacher-students, student-student, human-multimedia interactions are explained. In the course of interaction, both the teacher and the students are in an active state. The students are real masters of learning. Teachers become directors, facilitators, organizers, creators of environment in which the students learn and learn how to learn, rather than instructors, lecturers, knowledge transmitters.
