The international reform of geography course in middle schools have a great influence on China, nowadays the"Course Standard"has become the main topic discussed by the experts in or out of the education areas . As the one of results of China's geography education reform , Geography Standards has been published .The Standards make great improvement based on the historical experience .However ,the Standards need to be updated since they are in the experimental stage .America has established a set of advanced geography education systems on goals , instruction , implementation since 1990s,American experiences may give some enlightenments to the improvement of China's geography standards for middle school.First, the paper expounds historical background of two countries'Geography Standards, thus pointing out that the necessity of the drafting of national geography standards for both countries so as to cope with the new challenges. Then, the paper discusses the geography course standard between Chinese and American middle schools from educational attitude, course objectives, content standards, evaluation and implementation. By the way, this paper aims at drawing on some experience and enlightenment of enforcing and improving the"Geography Course Standard"in China.
